Scena Muzyczna

One of the most exceptional concerts in the history of Globaltika was the solo performance in 2010 by the Galician artist Mercedes Peon, who enchanted and mesmerized everyone present at Kolibki. It was also her debut before the Polish audience. 15 years later, Mercedes returns to Gdynia with her new female trio Deixaas

Mercedes Peon, vocalist, instrumentalist and composer, is considered one of the most charismatic women on the world music scene. In her work, she boldly draws on Galician traditions, not afraid to combine them with contemporary musical genres. With full virtuosity, she uses the sounds of bagpipes and pandeireta frame drums, but also electronic loops and samples, which, together with her unique voice, create a fascinating wall of sounds on stage. For years, the artist has also devoted herself to field research, thoroughly learning, analyzing and promoting the culture of her region.

She has released 5 albums that were warmly received by the media and listeners, each of which in a way illustrates the musical and artistic development of this charismatic vocalist. Among the several hundred concerts she has performed around the world, she also has a joint tour with Warsaw Village Band and participated in the recording of their album Sun Celebration.

Her latest project Deixaas, created together with two Galician artists – Ana Fernández and Mónica de Nut – seems to be the most mature musical form in her work to date – a perfectly balanced combination of tradition and modernity, acoustic, electronic and industrial sounds – a unique work in terms of aesthetics, concept and music. In addition to compositional and performance values, Mercedes Peon also attaches great importance to the issues she raises in her lyrics: identity, gender, language, group affiliation, tradition, the past and the future. All this shows what a unique artist we are dealing with.
