Barely two years earlier, Poland had returned to Pomerania – which had been under German rule for nearly 150 years – and Kashubian councilors were using the beautiful Polish language they had preserved through the years of partition. “The book of the newly established begins with a wish that the deliberations that will be recorded will multiply and lift the good of the Municipality. And they lifted, because they were enthusiastic, economical and frugal. They saw urgent needs, but did not flaunt money. Here is one of the resolutions: “To build one large room in the school yard for a teacher, on the condition that the money for this will be used from the foundation of Mr. President of Ministers [donated to the school] according to the bid of the cheapest builder and will be returned to the school fund from the lease of this room for summer visitors during the bathing season.”
