About the exhibition:
Exhibition as a result of my art therapy. Since graduating from the Academy of Fine Arts in 2001, I hadn’t painted at all, I was only engaged in professional activities, namely interior design. But in 2020 came the pandemic, and with it a strong fear. For health, for the future. Fear of people who appeared as a potential threat of contagion. To relieve this fear I started painting again. After a 20-year hiatus, I grabbed the brush again and painted landscapes to soothe me. These landscapes intentionally have little or no staffage. They were intended to depict only a peaceful space without people. Over time, small human figures began to appear, but always far away, indistinct, at a safe distance for the viewer. The choice of subjects was intuitive, I did not rigidly assume what I would paint, but my subconscious directed me towards nature. The closest environment is the Kashubia region, which is close to me. Water, forest, floodplains, sea, beach, meadows. But there are also other corners of Poland as inspiration, Podlasie, mountains. Over time, it turned out that my paintings act as art therapy not only for me. When I showed them on my social media, I would get responses: but here calm, one would like to look constantly. It turned out that my therapy can be shared and it can bring solace to viewers.
Katarzyna Krzeszewska – I was born on November 2, 1974 in Bydgoszcz. My artistic path began at the Leon Wyczółkowski State High School of Fine Arts there. I studied in the field of exhibition studies. It was then that my artistic taste began to form and I slowly matured to decide what professional path to follow. My goal was to become an interior designer, and that’s what I undertook to study at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdansk. From that moment my life became connected with this city, I grew into it and became a part of it, a true Gdansker. I began to get to know the region I had chosen to live in-Kashubia. I was introduced to the world of the not easy Kashubian history by friends. Driving around small towns, villages, tourist and non-tourist areas, I marveled at the variety of nature. Because there was everything from lakes, the sea, charming rivers, forests, to picturesque hills that revealed beautiful views. Kashubia became my place on earth. Gdansk the place of residence and professional life, and Kashubia the place of rest, solace and inspiration for painting.
