This year, DJ Tom B. – a French record selector, digger, and collector associated with the Geneva-based Bongo Joe Records, one of the most interesting labels in recent years, specializing in discovering unusual sounds from around the world – will be providing a lively atmosphere at the Globaltica afterparty.
It was through his work that many listeners first encountered the music of São Tomé and Príncipe. Tom B. was responsible for, among other things, the acclaimed compilations dedicated to the band África Negra and the Léve Léve series, documenting the island’s dance scene of the 1970s and 1980s.
His sets are musical journeys without genre or geographical boundaries. DJ Tom B. freely blends African rhythms, Caribbean music, psychedelia, funk, soul, and archival recordings discovered during years of musical exploration. The atmosphere and narrative style are as important to his selections as the songs themselves. Instead of obvious hits, we’re presented with recordings that surprise both with their sound and the history of their origins. This is music for those who enjoy exploring music off the beaten path, but above all, for those who simply love to dance.
DJ Tom B. will bring to Gdynia a set full of pulsating rhythms from around the world, where archival recordings and analog sounds combine for a cohesive, danceable journey across borders and time, creating a unique, energetic atmosphere on the dance floor.
