They were supposed to play at Globaltica in 2018, but on their way to Gdynia they got stuck at the airport in Munich and their concert was cancelled at the last minute. Now they are back with new material and a powerful dose of energetic Latin music, while celebrating their 25th anniversary!
Chico Trujillo is undoubtedly one of the most famous bands from Chile. In their home country they can fill stadiums performing for over 50,000 people. They are the most recognizable group performing contemporary cumbia – no party from Santiago to Valparaiso can take place without their music. Their work is a mix of classic cumbia, rock and ska elements. Such diverse and universal music has earned them fans from every generation in South America. Their lively, energetic concerts and solid brass section have led to them often being referred to in Europe as Latin Gogol Bordello.
Chico Trujillo began their career in 1999 as an offshoot of the punk/ska band LaFloripondio. Nineteen years and six albums later, they have come to symbolize a unique Chilean musical cocktail that is rooted in pre-Pinochet cumbia but also incorporates virtually every aspect of contemporary Chilean popular culture. The musicians have deftly used fragments of their country’s past, blending them with alternative influences to create an entirely new genre they have dubbed Cumbia Chilombiana.
In addition to touring Chile and South America, the band regularly performs in the US, Europe, and Asia. This year, they will be back in Europe, and in Poland, they will play just one show in Gdynia. This is not to be missed!
