Scena Muzyczna

After a memorable, lively concert at Globaltica in 2019, the king of the Balkan trumpet returns to Gdynia!

Guča – a small town in central Serbia – has been the venue for an annual brass band festival and competition since 1961, the aim of which is to identify the best trumpeters in the world. Every year, over 300,000 people come here, hungry for Balkan music at the highest level. The members of Boban Marković Orkestar have been multiple winners there. They have received awards practically every year they have participated. In 2000, they were recognized as the best orchestra, and Boban himself was named the best trumpet player in 2001 – this was his 5th personal win. Since then, he has decided not to compete anymore, but simply performs there as an honorary guest.

Following the wishes of his father, who was also an excellent instrumentalist, Boban Marković began learning to play the trumpet at the age of five, and by the age of fifteen he had already become a professional musician. In his twenties he was one of the best musicians in the former Yugoslavia. After he turned thirty he was practically the king of the Balkan brass bands, a trumpeter who was treated like a star or a celebrity.

Boban Marković’s music was first introduced to Western audiences thanks to such films as Emir Kusturica‘s Underground and Arizona Dream. Shortly after that the band began touring regularly around the world, releasing several albums in the meantime.

The music of the Boban Marković Orchestra is characterized by stunning, energetic arrangements, beautiful, swinging melodies and unique rhythms. The Balkan fire will once again appear on the Globaltica stage!
