About band
Music of WoWaKin has recently reached a wider audience thanks to the soundtrack to the now cult Netflix series “1670”. The band creates roots music, on the border between tradition, folk and improvisation. They specialize in interpretations of traditional music. They are famous among dance lovers. The repertoire draws from the musically rich regions of Poland – Radomszczyzna, Mazovia, Kujawy, Podlasie. The trio creates acoustic music, masterfully using instruments typical for local traditions. You can hear violins, three-row accordion, drums, dulcimer and basses. The musicians engage in dialogue with tradition and experiment, not shying away from musical games and improvisation. Hence the surprising instruments that appear in many songs – kalimba and banjolele. Their repertoire includes lyrical and ritual songs, chants, kujawiaks, mazurkas, oberkas and polkas. Their music is characterized by vigor, energy, and on the other hand, lyricism and delicacy.
The band consists of Paula Kinaszewska – violinist and singer, Bartłomiej Woźniak – composer, singer, multi-instrumentalist and Mateusz Wachowiak – accordionist. Their common passion is Polish folk music. They reveal to us the world of dance music that once reigned in Poland, which is an unrecorded and fascinating treasure of the Polish countryside. The musicians draw their repertoire from live transmission, going to the countryside and learning from the old generation of musicians and singers.
At Globaltica, the group will present material from their latest album and perform with the participation of two distinguished musicians: Marta Maślanka – a dulcimer player known from film music recordings, and with an avant-garde improviser, keyboardist and pianist – Piotr Zabrodzki (known from the Lado ABC label and many bands including Warszawskie Combo Taneczne and Mitch&Mitch).
