···BOLLYWOOD BRASS BAND feat. JYOTSNA SRIKANTH - Indie / Wielka Brytania
CARNATIC CONNECTION is a common project of Indian violinist JYOTSNA SRIKANTH and London based legendary BOLLYWOOD BRASS BAND. Strings meet brass: virtuosic violin playing and funky brass and drums, in instrumental versions of film songs from Bollywood and the magical world of South Indian films. Expect to be both enchanted and surprised, and to end the concert dancing.
It is a musical journey to a new territory, where brass and strings encounter the sonic wonders of violin gamakas (decorations), mridangam (double-headed hand drum) and morsing (jaws harp) - fusion of Bollywood and Carnatic filmi sounds; from the legendary composer Ilaiyaraaja to the ubiquitous AR Rahman and his Oscar-winning Jai Ho hit from Slumdog Millionaire.
Jyotsna Srikanth is a leading violinist from the South Indian classical tradition, and also an accomplished western classical musician who has collaborated with acclaimed jazz, western classical and world music artists. Her recitals combine a deep understanding of traditional music with jazz and a contemporary touch. This rare balance between tradition and modernity has helped her carve a unique niche, captivating audiences across the globe.
The Bollywood Brass Band is the UK’s pioneering Indian-style wedding band, playing the great tunes and compulsively danceable rhythms of Bollywood. With brass, saxophone, dhol drums and a colossal sousaphone, the group is one of the most colourful, joyful and exhilarating live bands in Europe. Twice nominated for Songlines World Music Awards, the band has performed all over the world – in venues, at festivals, and for Indian weddings in the UK, Norway, India, Thailand and South Africa.
Carnatic Connection is unusual collaboration, which was released on CD in 2016 and quickly became a sensation both on records market and festivals’ circles.
The show features video sequences from the original films, synched to the live music.
The project will be presented for the first time in Poland.
